No Dry January, Just New Wines

Hey There

Discover 2024 with us!

The first month of 2024 is almost over, and for us it means we are ready to share our great new wine finds with you.

Some of these were much enjoyed during the December Christmas break as well as the slower paced month of January, and some of them are just our regular favourites that we want to share with you.

Allane & Nicola

Luckily for us, having spent some time over the festive season down by the coast, returning to bush life and the city life, wasn’t as hard as we thought. We almost sound like we can’t go a day without wine, but if that’s the case, as some days are harder than others, why not “klink” a glass to a new year, cherished memories and loved ones, and just enjoying that serene moment of reminiscing.

Life is short, so live it.

Love is rare, so grab it.

Fear controls you, so face it.

Memories are precious, so cherish them.

We only get one life, so live it…

We grabbed some old favourites, spent some time drinking them and here we are sharing about them. Enjoy!

  • Nuy Winery – Agrilla 2020 Cape Blend

If you have ever been fortunate enough to visit this beautiful part of our country, you would know that there are some great wine farms along this route to visit. Very easy to drink Red blend and almost has a sort of soft and sweet after taste in the mouth.

It scores 3.8 stars on the Vivino app and it is available directly to buy from the winery here for R170 per bottle.

  • Neil Ellis – West Coast Sauvignon Blanc 2023

This has recently become one of my favourite Sauvignon Blancs on the market. It embodies true characteristics of a beautiful South African Sauvignon Blanc and is easy to drink during the day as well as the night.

We enjoyed it a few times over the holidays during different occasions and was a great match with seafood as well as sometimes some red meat.I would strongly recommend this white wine to anyone as it is beautifully rounded with so much flavour.

It is currently on special with Getwine for R85 per bottle and scores a well-deserved 3.9 on Vivino.

If you are ever lucky enough to get your hands on a bottle of this stunning Champagne, you will be in heaven! This Champagne can easily be enjoyed throughout the whole day and won’t leave you feeling bloated or overly dry in the mouth. It really is, simply put, “pleasure in the mouth”. We got to taste this beauty on Christmas day as there is no better time for celebrations with family and friends.

A rating of 4.3 on Vivino shows why it is a stand-out Champagne. It does however come with a big price tag, but should there be a very special occasion to be celebrated this is one drink that you would want in hand.

  • Wildeberg – Terroirs Chenin Blanc

To ease back into the White grapes of wine tasting, I would recommend starting with this Chenin. If you’ve been a red wine drinker for as long as you can remember but these super hot days have you wanting to reach for something cooler, crispier and satisfying then this easy, citrus tasting white wine will just do that… satisfy you!

It does not get any better than a 4.0 rating on Vivino to get your taste buds back on the white wine train.

  • Wildeberg Red

I (Nicola) had the privilege of sharing this beautiful blend with close friends and am certainly looking forward to heading back to this mesmerising winery in the beginning of March, as we make our way down to the Cape for our annual wine-tasting fill.

An amazing blend of 90% Shiraz and 10% Cab Franc (my favourite blend), you couldn’t ask for a better companion alongside a braai and with good company. A firm favourite, and a must have in your cellar.

A simple selection of red and white for the summer months and definitely worth getting your hands on. Please do share your experiences with any of these wines and maybe some advice on where to head in the wine-lands if you have 6 days down in the Cape…
